Interactive pet toys have been on the market for years, remember your nanopet from 4th grade? Well, now the iPhone and Ipod Touch have a free app that allows you to interact with your very own Tom Cat.Share|The app is called "Talking Tom Cat." In it, a sweet, wide-eyed kitty deals with it's pesky owner (aka, you) while you slap him, punch him and pull his tail. You can actually slap and punch the cat until it falls over, dizzy and disoriented. He also repeats what you say to him in a high pitched voice, reminiscent of Alvin and the Chipmunks. The app allows you to easily record what Tom Cat says and does and post the video to YouTube.
While this is a funny app that many seem to enjoy on Youtube, it also poses threats for behavior toward animals. A mom on the app's main page on apple.com said, "Why would I want my toddlers (or anyone) to have hurtful interactions with an animal. Almost everything you do to this cat is violent. Punch him in the stomach, slap in the face (until he falls over), stomp his feet, pull his tail? How is this cute? Offensive, Yes."Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
