Based on the popular American Girls Collection® of dolls and books, "Samantha: An American Girl Holiday" stars Mia Farrow, AnnaSophia Robb, Kelsey Lewis, Jordan Bridges and Rebecca Mader.
The movie focuses on 9-year-old Samantha Parkington, an orphan who lives with her wealthy grandmother in Mount Bedford, New York in 1904. Samantha is one of the three original American Girl® characters, as well as the most popular doll in the collection.
When a poor family comes to work as servants for the family next door, Samantha is delighted to find that one of the girls, Nellie O'Malley (Kelsey Lewis, "Curb Your Enthusiasm"), is her age. Unconcerned with the social code of the day, Samantha quickly forms a close friendship with Nellie and her two little sisters.
The film explores the girls' different worlds and the changes and challenges they face together. When the death of Nellie's father leads to the three O'Malley girls being sent to an orphanage, Samantha refuses to give up her friend and plots the sisters' dramatic escape. In the end, Samantha, Nellie and her sisters all find a home and a family they can call their own.
Jordan Bridges ("Mona Lisa Smile") stars as Samantha's beloved Uncle Gard, and Rebecca Mader ("All My Children") plays Aunt Cornelia.
