Made in Brazil

Saturday night, August 23, Hollywood's Avalon hosted the sixth installment of its occasional "Made in Brazil" party. The house music fete, which was started by Porto Alegre native Renata Amaral almost two years ago, has grown into a mini-event in Los Angeles; regularly drawing around 1000 beat-happy Angelenos of all ethnic backgrounds to the big Avalon dancefloor.

DJs are often flown in direct from Brazil, bringing with them a heady mix of house music and highly danceable techno. Amaral dubbed this past installment "Girls Aloud," because the djs were all women (even though one of the ladies was actually not Brazilian, but rather, the German-born model/DJ Miss Nine).

Though the party has regularly been at the Avalon, look for it to start moving around soon. The seventh "Made in Brazil" will travel across area codes. "The next one will be on September 27th at the Custom Hotel," says Amaral. Expect even less clothing at the September soiree, as the Hopscotch Lounge at the Custom just happens to be a poolside bar.
