Comic-Con 2016: Top video game picks

1. “Pokemon Go”: The cellphone game that has players the world over trying to “catch them all” became massively popular, practically overnight. Comic-Con organizers tipped their hats to that success and moved a “Pokemon Go” panel from its Thursday slot in a room that holds 480 people (HA!) to a Sunday spot in Hall H. 2. Nerd HQ 2016: The four-day event is sure to lure gamers with three explosive titles scheduled to release in October. “Battlefield 1,” the latest iteration in the hugely popular series, promises all the grit and bayonets you’d expect from World War1 skirmishes. Get to know JD Fenix (yes, that Fenix) who will face yet another threat to humanity’s survival on planet Sera in “Gears of War 4.” Or “stand by for (more) Titanfall” in “Titanfall 2.” July 21-24, New Children’s Museum
3. Play Nintendo Family Lounge: Play your favorite 3 DS and Wii U games, compete in gaming tournaments for prizes and hang with some of your favorite Nintendo characters at the Play Nintendo Family Lounge. The spot will be jampacked with photo opps, too, so prepare to strike a pose with a huge Kirby or a giant PokeBall. July 21-24, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina hotel
4. The Xbox Booth: It’s a must-see for any gamer looking to get their hands on the hottest upcoming X-Box titles. “Forza Horizon 3,” “ReCore” and “Below” will all be available to play. 5. NASA and Angry Birds on a Journey to Mars: As far as we can tell, this is the only panel to host folks from NASA, which automatically makes it a contender. Listen as “Angry Bird” creators at Rovio and NASA’s best and brightest talk about collaborating to make the “Angry Birds Space” game fun AND educational. Also, catch a sneak preview of a new “Angry Bird” short, “Rocket Science Show: Next Stop Mars.” 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Room 5AB
