The Shelters shake up KAABOO on Saturday night

L.A.-based band, The Shelters, shook the Tourmaline stage on Saturday night of KAABOO Del Mar with extreme guitar rifts and a real deal, rock-n-roll sound. It’s no surprise that the quartet exhibits that sort of old-school rock charm, produced by the legendary Tom Petty.

The Shelters nailed a set of songs, showcasing a gypsy-inspired sound that had the crowds dancing, clapping and even head banging. The audience was apparently happy to be a part of a real rock show - without the insanely packed crowd that seemed to be the standard theme of KAABOO.

With songs like “Never Look Behind Ya” and their hit, “Rebel Heart,” the L.A. natives seemed very comfortable taking their place on a stage at the exact same time big names like Capital Cities and Lenny Kravitz were playing.

Their unique sound has kept their name on the lips of San Diegans for months now it seems - and for good reason. Their guitarist was shredding, the drummer’s hair was basically intertwined with his sticks as he slammed down the beat, the bass line was sexy and the lead singer was passionate and polished.

They delivered an epic showcase of their 2016 self-titled album, “The Shelters” at KAABOO, but this is just the start for the band that has a big year planned, primarily on the festival circuit. They may be back to San Diego in December, a member of their team stated, but before that they’ll be playing Life Is Beautiful Festival, Austin City Limits, Taste of South Lake, Voodoo in New Orleans and they’ll also be joining Band of Horses for their fall tour.
