Headliners announced for 2nd Ohana festival in Dana Point

Jack Johnson, Social Distortion and former San Diegan Eddie Vedder will headline the second annual Ohana festival in Dana Point.

To be held Sept. 8-10 at Doheny State Beach, the lineup for this year’s edition will also include Pixies, Ray Lamontagne, Haim, Fiona Apple, Glen Hansard, The Naked and Famous, TV On The Radio, Dr. Dog, The Orwells, The Frights, Vérité, Cameron Avery, Conner Youngblood, Simon Townshend, Missio, Ella Vos, Liam Finn, Timmy Curran, Jade Jackson, Corey Harper andthe San Diego-bred surf-jazz duo The Mattson 2. Vedder also co-headlined the first Ohana festival last year, while Johnson co-headlined the 2016 KAABOO Del Mar festival at the Del Mar Racetrack and adjoining fairgrounds.

This year’s KAABOO festival takes place Sept. 15-17, one week after Ohana. Weezer is thus far the only confirmed headlining act; the rest of the KAABOO lineup will be announced later this month.

Given the non-compete window of exclusivity included in the artist contracts for major festivals, it is fair to say that none of the 2017 Ohana acts will be in the 2017 KAABOO lineup, and vice versa.

In addition to headlining his own set at Ohana last year, Vedder shared the stage with such musical pals as Elvis Costello, Band of Horses and X. An audience of more than 22,000 attended.

In between songs, Vedder told the Ohana audience: “Being able to hear music - maybe even live music - while you’re on a wave...we did that today...To invent something (where) the people who had the very last row have the best seat in the house, ‘cause they can see the ocean and see the music...I hope you like it as much as we hoped and thought you would.”

Tickets for Ohana are priced at $99.50 per day. Three-day passes are $275 each. VIP passes are $499 per day, while three-day VIP passes cost $1200 each.

Ohana is co-produced by Synergy Global Entertainment and Live Nation, which owns San Diego’s House of Blues nightclub and Chula Vista’s Mattress Firm Amphitheatre.

A portion of the proceeds from Ohana ticket sales will benefit the San Onofre Parks Foundation. The California non-profit cooperatively works with California State Parks to develop, preserve and enhance the recreation and experience at California’s coastal parks.
