Queen + Adam Lambert announce extensive North American concert tour

Queen and San Diego-bred vocal dynamo Adam Lambert are mounting an extensive North American tour this summer that will visit 25 cities in the United States and Canada.

The Queen + Adam Lambert tour opens June 23 in Phoenix and concludes Aug. 5 in Houston. While the concert trek sadly bypasses San Diego, where Lambert got his start performing musicals with local theater companies, it does include two California dates. The first is June 26 at the Hollywood Bowl, where pop and rock concerts are exclusively booked by former San Diego concert promoter Bill Silva and his partner, Andrew Hewitt. The second is in San Jose on June 29. Should the June 26 Hollywood Bowl concert sell out, which is likely, it is possible a second date at the famed venue could be added.

“American Idol” alum Lambert’s most recent San Diego performance was in June, 2015, at the San Diego County Fair’s Grandstand Stage. To preview that show, he did an in-depth interview with the Union-Tribune, during which he described how much he had learned from touring with May and Taylor, with whom he first performed Queen songs while competing on “American Idol.”.

“Obviously, I picked up a lot from them on stage,” Lambert told the Union-Tribune. “Their music is unbelievable, and it’s not easy to sing these songs. I’ve learned a ton on a technical level. And, personally, the fabulous thing is - because they are Queen and are rock royalty - they take a jet, not a bus! So that was exciting.

“I think I picked up their sense of the big picture. They’ve been in the business a long time and have lived full lives, so I realized not to sweat the small stuff as much as I did in the past. They see the big picture and take pride in their work. The other thing I’ve picked up from them is that it’s not just the work and career; you also have to pay attention to your life and to your heart.”
