San Diego County Fair announces 2016 concerts

Share

Beach Boys’ mastermind Brian Wilson, The Jacksons, Kenny Rogers and Grammy Award-winning San Diego rock band Switchfoot are among the acts confirmed to perform as part of the 2016 San Diego County Fair’s Toyota Summer Concert Series on the Heineken Grandstand Stage.

Wilson’s fair date is an addition to his Pet Sounds 50th anniversary world tour, which features him and his band performing the Beach Boys’ landmark 1966 album, “Pet Sounds,” in its entirety. “Pet Sounds” was largely the creation of Wilson, who recorded most of it with top Los Angeless studio musicians, including guitarist Barney Kessel and theremin player and trombonist Paul Tanner, both of whom later became longtime San Diego residents and are now each deceased.

The 2016 Grandstand Stage lineup also includes Michael McDonald, gospel-music legend Shirley Caesar, Los Tigres Del Norte and X Ambassadors, whose most recent San Diego performance was November 26 at Observatory North Park. Lady Antebellum, whose performance was announced separately last month, will also perform. The complete Grandstand lineup announced thus far appears below.

The fair has also announced its 2016 Ford Dealers Paddock Concert Series. The lineup ranges from Ozomatli and John Mayall to Felix Cavaliere’s Rascals and a Michael Jackson tribute show that is scheduled for the day after Tito, Marlon and Jackie Jackson perform on the Grandstand Stage.

Admission for most concerts is free with fair admission. Reserved seats are also available. Tickets for the Grandstand and Paddock concert series go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at ticketmaster.com, and by phone: (800) 745-3000.
