Shakira announces El Dorado world tour
Hips, and hits, don’t lie - Shakira is hitting the road for an extensive international concert trek.
Her El Dorado World Tour begins Nov. 17 in Cologne, Germany, and concludes Feb. 9 in Las Vegas. The second-to-last date is a Feb. 9 show at San Diego’s Valley View Casino Center, where she last performed in 2010.
All the dates and cities for her El Dorado tour appear below, along with ticket information. The tour is being produced by Live Nation, which owns and operates the House of Blues nightclub in downtown San Diego and Mattress Firm Amphitheatre in Chula Vista.
Shakira’s tour is timed to promote her 11th album, “El Dorado,” which is not to be confused with the 1974 Electric Light Orchestra album of the same name. The video for “Chantaje,” a hit single from her “El Dorado” album, has been viewed more than 1.4 billion times thus far.
Shakira, whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, is a native of Colombia.
Her first four albums were all-Spanish affairs. Her fifth, 2001’s “Laundry Service,” was her first to be recorded mostly in English. Her 2006 song, “Hips Don’t Lie,” topped the charts in 18 countries and was her first No. 1 single in the United States.
Shakira, 40, is a two-time Grammy Award winner who also has eight Latin Grammy victories to her name. She has sold an estimated 60 million records worldwide.
Tickets for all El Dorado tour dates go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. local time in each city via Shakira’s website. A pre-sale for Citi card-holders begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, and runs through 10 p.m. Thursday.
Tickets for her Feb. 9 San Diego concert will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through axs.com. Prices have not yet been announced. As of this writing, her show here does not yet appear on the Valley View Casino Center web site.
