More than 2,000 Glendale Water & Power customers were left without power Friday afternoon after an unoccupied runaway rental truck rolled down a hill, struck a power pole in La Crescenta and took down electrical wires, officials said.

The box truck likely rolled down Dunsmore Avenue about 4 p.m., then struck the power pole at Los Amigos Street, snapped it in half and toppled several wires, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said. Some of the wires fell down on the truck, Lorenz said.

Firefighters extinguished a small fire outside a home near the crash site, according to Brandy Villanueva of the Glendale Fire Department.

No one was injured in the crash.

Dunsmore Avenue bewteen Los Amigos and Santa Carlotta streets were closed to traffic, Lorenz added.

Police notified Ryder rental company of the crash and were trying to locate the person who rented the truck, Lorenz said.
