CV High student describes ‘disturbing’ scene

Share

A few minutes after the bell rang for lunch today, Crescenta Valley High freshman Myles Dalmau said he heard a thud.

At first he thought it was a gunshot, he said. Then about two dozen people crowded around a student who fell from a building.

Dalmau said the student was face down and motionless.

“My friend was there when it happened. He fell a few feet away from her,” Dalmau said. “It was pretty disturbing.”

Teachers quickly rushed to the fallen student. One staff member pulled an umbrella from a lunch table to cover up the body, Dalmau said.

“They covered him within a few minutes,” he said, adding that he didn’t know the student, who officials described as a 15-year-old sophomore.

At a press conference, Los Angeles County sheriff’s official said it appeared to be a suicide, and that the boy got a running start before jumping to his death.

The student was wearing jeans and a black backpack when he landed, Dalmau said.
