Glendale Community College sets timetable for finding interim president

Glendale Community College trustees plan to name an interim president by June 29, according to a timeline approved this week.

At a special board meeting Wednesday, trustees approved a formal job announcement for the position while also laying out how the search will unfold. The application window opened Friday and will close June 1, with interviews scheduled for June 21 through 29.

A job offer is scheduled to be made by June 29, although the formal start date will depend on the individual’s availability.

Donna Voogt, dean of human resources at the college, will facilitate the search process and the trustees will be responsible for selecting the candidates to be interviewed, interviewing them and making the final selection.

Compensation for the position has not yet been set, Voogt said.

The interim leader will fill the void left be outgoing President/Supt. Dawn Lindsay until a permanent replacement is hired. Lindsay announced in April that she had accepted the top job at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Md.

Lindsay was named interim president at Glendale Community College in May 2009, following the resignation of Audre Levy. One year later, the college hired her with a permanent, three-year contract through June 2013.

Trustees voted early this month to bar the interim president from applying for the permanent job so as to attract the widest pool of candidates as possible.

A timeline for the search for the permanent replacement has not yet taken shape, Voogt said.

“We hope to get that going soon, but we are focused on the interim position right now,” she said.
