Police seek pair of alleged thieves who’ve hit coin washers in Glendale, L.A.
Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man and woman who allegedly broke into several residential washing machines and dryers, making off with nearly $100 in change.
The burglaries occurred on May 14 in the 400 block of Salem Street in Glendale and on Sept. 18 at two other buildings — 10800 block of Palms Boulevard and 400 block of South Hoover Street — in Los Angeles, according to Glendale police.
In the Glendale theft, the pair was seen in images taken from video surveillance as trying to conceal their faces while tampering with the machines.
That theft was discovered about 3:32 p.m. in the multifamily apartment building when an employee who works for a washing machine manufacturing company noticed $95.50 was stolen from a washer and dryer, according to police.
He checked the machines that morning to log the amount of change.
The employee notified police that similar thefts had occurred at other buildings in Los Angeles.
Surveillance video from the Los Angeles thefts shows the pair walking through buildings and tampering with machines, but it was unclear how much money was stolen in those incidents.
Police believe the pair may have used a small crowbar to remove the locked portion on the coin-operated machines. They returned the coin box before fleeing, police said.
