Burbank Bob Hope Airport took the top spot for 2012 in an annual survey of the most affordable airfields in the U.S.

Among the 101 most-searched airports on the website Cheapflights.com, which compiled the list, Bob Hope ranked No. 1 for affordability with an average ticket price of $221, improving from the No. 2 slot in 2011.

Long Beach Airport, which had claimed the top spot last year, was ranked at No. 2 with an average fare of $250, followed by Fresno, and Harrisburg International and Lehigh, both in Pennsylvania.

The rankings were based on the actual airfares users found when searching for deals to domestic and international destinations during the month of June.

Los Angeles International Airport ranked 59th with an average fare of $531, according to the index. The most expensive average fare -- $964 -- went to Anchorage International Airport, putting it at No. 101 on the list.
