Man allegedly punches, robs transient of $12, stomps on his earphones
A 47-year-old Glendale man was arrested early Monday after allegedly robbing a homeless man of $12 in cash before punching him in the face and stomping on his earphones, police said.
Police took Lee Peters into custody just after midnight on suspicion of robbery outside of Ascencia — the area’s main homeless services provider — where the incident also occurred, Glendale police said.
The homeless man was talking on a cell phone as he headed home to Ascencia in the 400 block of Fernando Court, when Peters allegedly approached him and repeatedly yelled, “Hey I know you have money. Stop disrespecting me.”
The homeless man, who was not identified, then started walking in the middle of street because Peters continued to follow him, according to police.
When Peters allegedly demanded cash, the victim pulled $12 from his pockets.
After snatching the cash, Peters allegedly punched the man in the jaw, causing him to fall. Before walking away, he smashed the victim’s earphones.
The man walked to Ascencia and called police, and later identified Peters as his attacker, police said.
Ascencia workers told police Peters visited their facility earlier and asked if they were still allowing people to stay for the night.
They told him he had to return the next morning, which angered Peters, police said.
He remained in police custody Tuesday in lieu of a $50,000 bond, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department records.
Peters is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
