Hundreds of pounds in unwanted prescriptions drugs dropped off on Saturday

Share

Police collected 585 pounds of prescription pills Saturday from residents in Glendale and foothill communities as part of a nationwide drug take-back day.

Four locations in Glendale — Verdugo Road, Glendale Community College, Broadway and Chevy Chase Drive and Glenoaks Boulevard and Allen Avenue — yielded 405 pounds of prescription pills, according to police.

Another 180 pounds of unwanted, unused or expired prescription pills were collected from residents in Tujunga, La Crescenta and La Cañada Flintridge, police said.

U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration worked with Glendale police, the Crescenta Valley sheriff’s station, college police and the Los Angeles Police Foothill Division to organize the free and anonymous drug drop off for residents.

The DEA created the event to prevent household drug abuse and theft of prescription pills.
