A 42-year-old man who was found dead Saturday at the bottom of a Holiday Inn on South First Street was identified by coroner’s officials as Anthony Joseph Armendariz.

Burbank police on Monday said it appeared Armendariz had jumped to his death, although the investigation remained ongoing.

Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said Armendariz died just four days after his 42nd birthday. Authorities initially said he was from Burbank, but the coroner’s office said he was resident of Van Nuys.

“I don’t believe there was a note found,” Winter said Tuesday. “Hopefully we’ll have some answers in a few days.”

Burbank police Sgt. Darin Ryburn said officers were dispatched to the scene at 9:38 p.m. When they arrived, Armendariz’s body was found on South First Street, between East Tujunga Avenue and East Angeleno Avenue, at the bottom of a stairwell, Ryburn said.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
