Glendale police warn of rash of catalytic converter thefts

Glendale police are advising residents to look out for a vehicle that may be tied to a string of catalytic converter thefts.

Six catalytic converters were reported stolen between Sept. 16 and Oct. 26 in North Glendale, according to police.

Thieves typically go after parked vans during the weekend. Catalytic converters, which are mounted underneath a vehicle, have been stolen from Mitsubishi, Mazda and Toyota vans.

Police believe the suspects could be using a battery-operated saw to detach the converters, which are part of a vehicle’s exhaust system and made from precious metals that can fetch money when taken to scrap metal yards.

The suspect vehicle was described as a Chevy Avalanche, and being gold, tan or gray.
Police urged residents to park their vehicles in a secure area and report any suspicious activity to (818) 548-4911.
