Burbank police have arrested the 14-year-old son of local day care operators for allegedly sexually molesting a 4-year-old client.

The teenager, who was not identified because he is a minor, was arrested Sunday after the alleged victim’s mother called police to lodge the complaint. An investigation determined that the male victim was at the day care center -- Mejia Family Day Care in the 2100 block of Pepper Street – when the alleged abuse occurred, police announced Tuesday.

The teen is currently being detained at Sylmar Juvenile Hall on suspicion of sexually abusing a minor, police said.

Meanwhile, parents of children attending the day care center have been notified of the allegations and are being interviewed, police said.

Attempts to reach the day care facility by phone were unsuccessful Tuesday.

Investigators from the California Department of Social Services-Community Care Licensing Bureau are conducting a review of the facility while the police investigation remains ongoing.
