PacSun, with locations in Burbank and Glendale, to close up to 200 stores

Pacific Sunwear of California Incorporated” href=”https://www.latimes.com/topic/economy-business-finance/pacific-sunwear-of-california-incorporated-ORCRP011708.topic”>Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. plans to close up to 200 of its weaker-performing stores around the country, targeting locations that had average sales of $600,000 in the last year, compared with stronger stores that had about $1.1 million in sales, the L.A. Times reports.

No specific store closures were announced, but the downsizing puts locations in the Town Center in Burbank and Glendale Galleria at some measure of risk.

A retail analyst told the Los Angeles Times that PacSun’s mix of private-label and third-party surf brands — such as Roxy and Billabong — hasn’t attracted trend-hungry youngsters who are eager for up-and-coming designers. As a result, many have flocked to rivals such as action-sports chain Zumiez Incorporated” href=”https://www.latimes.com/topic/economy-business-finance/zumiez-incorporated-ORCRP017115.topic”>Zumiez Inc., which has been more conscious of offering exclusive merchandise.
