Thieves steal more than 300 gallons of gasoline from Burbank station

Burbank police are investigating the theft of roughly $1,000 worth of gasoline -- or more than 300 gallons -- from a gas station last week.

Sometime between 11 p.m. on Thursday and 6 a.m. on Friday, police say the suspects pulled into the Universal Service Station at 2005 North Glenoaks Blvd. and pumped the gas into a “rigged vehicle” with a large container inside.

“I don’t know what these folks used, but it’s a lot of gas,” Burbank Police Lt. Eddie Ruiz said. “I don’t see that it was one car after another.”

It’s unknown how many suspects were involved.

Just four days earlier, an armed man had robbed the same station of an undetermined amount of cash and fled, police said.

The suspect -- described by police as black, about 26 years old, roughly 200 pounds and wearing a blue and white shirt -- remains at large. He was reportedly carrying a blue steel handgun.

Police do not believe the incidents are related.
