A 19-year-old Burbank man was hospitalized Thursday after he was allegedly assaulted by a member of his gang at a local park, police said.

The suspect, identified by police as Cesar Ramirez, 20, was arrested on suspicion of battery on Friday and was held in lieu of $100,000 bail, said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.

The victim was waiting for his brother to pick him up from George Izay Park just before 6 p.m. Thursday when he started talking to Ramirez and his friends, Ryburn said.

Ramirez allegedly punched the side of the victim’s head, causing him to lose consciousness and fall to the ground.

What spurred the assault was not immediately known. The pair reportedly knew each other and belong to the same gang, Ryburn said.

The victim’s brother drove him to a hospital, where he was treated for his injuries, which included a right eye-socket fracture and head trauma, Ryburn said.
