Woman who allegedly struck 5-year-old with her car pleads not guilty
A 28-year-old Lancaster woman pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges that she struck a 5-year-old boy while driving drunk with her 2-year-old son in her car, and later attempted to flee the scene, authorities said.
Meagan Booth was charged with two counts of driving under the influence causing injury, and one count each of leaving the scene of an accident and child endangerment.
The 5-year-old boy, who was crossing the street with his grandmother, was knocked to the ground during the collision, which occurred Monday afternoon at the intersection of Fairview Street and Victory Boulevard.
Booth reportedly attempted to flee the scene, but witnesses followed her to a 7-Eleven, where she was arrested, said Burbank Police Lt. Eddie Ruiz.
Booth allegedly had a blood alcohol limit of .15%, which is nearly twice the legal driving limit, according to the Los Angeles County Superior Court felony complaint.
Booth’s child was given to her sister, who responded to the scene, said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.
Booth is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
