Mieliwocki to lead Burbank on Parade

Share

A Burbank teacher honored by President Barack Obama in 2012 after being selected as National Teacher of the Year was chosen this week as the grand marshal for this year’s Burbank on Parade.

Rebecca Mieliwocki, a Glendale resident and seventh-grade English teacher at Luther Middle School in Burbank, will lead the 33rd annual parade this month with the theme “Burbank: City of the Future.”

“The choice of a local teacher as grand marshal is a perfect match because the children of this community are our future,” said parade president Carey Briggs in a statement. “We are fortunate to have an educator in town who has become known nationally and internationally for her outstanding ability to inspire students and fellow teachers as well.”

After being recognized by Obama, Mieliwocki traveled through 30 states and nine countries representing America’s public school teachers.

The parade, which travels east along Olive Avenue from Keystone to Lomita streets, will take place at 11 a.m. on April 26.
