Parolee allegedly steals breast pump, baby items at Burbank Target

A 49-year-old parolee was arrested Saturday after allegedly attempting to steal a $400 breast pump and other baby-related items from Target in Burbank, police said.

Julio Merlos of Los Angeles tried to leave the store, located at 1800 Empire Ave., with $824 worth of items, including the breast pump, clothing and diapers, which he reportedly said were for his pregnant daughter, said Burbank Police Officer Cindy Guillen.

Police responded to the store just before 2 p.m. after loss-prevention officers contacted Merlos outside the store, where they reportedly recovered the 24 stolen items, Guillen said.

Merlos was held without bail due to an unrelated no-bail warrant for his arrest. He is due in court later this week.
