An elderly Burbank pedestrian remained hospitalized Friday after suffering severe head injuries Thursday morning when she was struck by an SUV, police said.

On Friday afternoon, the 87-year-old woman was in a coma after undergoing surgery, according to Lt. John Dilibert with the Burbank Police Department.

A motorist was leaving a shopping center at Walnut Avenue and San Fernando Boulevard when she reportedly struck the pedestrian who was crossing the driveway just before 9 a.m., said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.

The pedestrian, who appeared to be walking to a nearby grocery store, was transported to a trauma center for treatment, Ryburn said.

The driver, a 36-year-old Burbank woman, reportedly showed no signs of intoxication.
