Second transit workshop scheduled
A second workshop on a study about possible new ways to better link the area around the Bob Hope to various public transit options will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the city of Burbank Community Services Building, 150 N. Third St., in Room 104.
A land-use study examines preliminary transportation improvement ideas and relies on public input.
It focuses on 540 acres, with the airport being about 20% of the area, and the rest made up of surrounding properties, said Mark Hardyment, director of transportation and environmental programs for the airfield.
The study looks at how various types of transportation could better serve the area, which is still largely industrial and light manufacturing, but has seen growth in media, post-production and technical businesses in the past 10 years, said Patrick Prescott, a deputy planner for the city of Burbank.
“(There are) strong assets with the airport and two train stations there,” Prescott said, including a new Metrolink station under construction north of the airport to serve the Antelope Valley. “How do we make the most of that?”
“We’re not anywhere near a point where we have conclusions, but want to show some of the continued thought processes,” Hardyment said. “We’ll be looking at increased opportunities to tie the airport in as a transportation hub of some regional significance for the area.”
