A gathering of the guilds

The La Providencia and Toluca Guilds of Childrens Hospital Los Angeles gathered for respective fundraising events Saturday.

Presented under the theme of “A Teddy Bear Picnic,” La Providencia Guild members and guests convened at Glendale’s Oakmont Country Club for their annual summer meeting and thrift store fashion show that was staged by committee members Beverly Jean Davies-Swaim, Tish Sellers, Sue Ann Gordon and the organization’s Vice President Judy Gragg.

Chaired by Lisa Murray and coordinated by Glenda Jones, Saturday’s luncheon was made possible by guild officers Dolly Monte, Joan Chandler, Alicia Katz and Judy La Verde and event committee members Mary Hurst, Dorothy Austin and Kathleen Hitt.

Others whose work, support and presence assisted in making the day a success included Suzanne Lapis, who serves as the director of associates and affiliates at Childrens Hospital, Tomme Lenz, Mandy Edwards, Gene Marie Watson, Pam Moeck and the afternoon’s models Elsa Aguiar-Laba, Gina and Stephanie Chantland, Teresa Garcia, Lynn Koon, Courtney Murray, Malena Tappen, Rosemarie Witten, Kris Veatch, Mary Christensen, Lynn Shelby, Veronica Chavoor, Tomme Lenz, Nancy Johnson, Beverly Wardle, Donna Salant and Janet Puchlik.

While the La Providencia Guild chose to show their support to Childrens Hospital with a big bear hug, the Toluca Guild gathered in the spirit of aloha, which in the Hawaiian language means affection, love, peace, compassion and mercy for a luau at Lakeside Golf Club.

Chaired by Paula Carpenter, who serves as the guild’s vice president, her committee included Shirley Norby, Lynn Best, Barbara Little, Kathleen Marsden, Sophie Goodsell, Rose Chimo, Dee Hitchcock, Patty O’Connor, Kimberley Clark, Darlene Lloyd, Stephanie Waite and Pat Lobinger.

Among those who enjoyed the sunset luau and Hawaiian-themed entertainment were the guild’s President Marion O’Mara and officers Joan Tappan and Shirley Garrett. Others in attendance included Michael and Tracy Leigh Alley, Diane Barber, David Barrone, Frank Barnyak, Michael Bishop, Dusty Brandel, William Brewer, Jane Cattani, Maurice Cattani, Rose and Paulana Chimo, John and Teri Choate, Gary Christ, Leslie Clark, Raul Contraras, Janice Cronkite, Dean Edgerton, Clay and Susan Ezell, Norton Figatner, Tony Floriano, Betty Ford, Shirley Garrett, Peter Hansen, Joanne Hawkins, Mary Hill, Michael Kellick, Jeff and Dana Klitvner, Beth Knox, Marj Layne, Bill Little, Ed and Mary Matveld, Linda Moriarity, Charleen Munro, Cindy and Rick Peters, Tina Rodriguez, Dorothy Sall, Peter Schermer, Baron Schmidt, Michelle Sucillon, Nancy Storrs, May Valiton, Susanne Van Name, Richard Volk, Barbara Wenzel, Cindy Wexler, Rhonda Williams and Scott Wolkoff.

Both local guilds support Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, one of the region’s largest referral centers for children in critical condition. A nonprofit, academic, pediatric medical center, Childrens Hospital provides quality health care on an annual basis for more than 93,000 children who are in need of care in more than 100 medical specialty and subspecialty areas the facility offers.
