Burroughs in the Mt. Carmel Invitational: The Indians had some fine results in the event Saturday at Balboa park in San Diego.
In the senior girls' race (2.7 miles), Gracia Innocentia was 19th in 17 minutes 15 seconds and was followed by Joanna Reyes (62nd; 18:36) and Sammanatha Fajardo (64th; 18:38).
In the junior boys' race (2.95 miles), the Burroughs finishers were Ricky Mendez (14th; 16:47), Luis Celaya (21st; 16:46) and Everth Vargas (48th; 17:28).
In the sophomore girls' race (2.45 miles), Valerie Monroy was 45th (15:57) and was followed by Desiree Ruiz (49th; 16:03) and Miranda
In the sophomore boys' race (2.7 miles), the Indians finishers were Elias Hoxsie (third; 14:31), Shane Thompson (fourth; 14:36), Garrett Boulais (15th; 14:56) and Jack Howe (49th; 15:40).
In the freshman girls' race (2.45 miles), Ashley Contreras was 21st (15:50) and Eileen Eckles was 32nd (16:20), and in the boys' freshman race (2.7 miles), Anddrew Barrondo was fifth (15:03) and Diego Sanchez was 27th (16:15).
Burbank 10, La Cañada 1: The Bulldogs won the nonleague match on the road Friday that was shortened because of excessive heat.
Burbank swept in singles, winning nine sets.
Burbank Vikings: Just two teams from the Burbank Vikings Youth Football program were able to earn victories in games Saturday.
The most dramatic win was turned in by Senior Gold (3-1), which had to go to overtime to defeat Palmdale, 20-18. Bantam Green (3-1) downed the Highland Bulldogs, 38-6, to earn the other win.
On the losing end, Junior Black (1-2) fell to Valley, 32-6, Junior Green (2-2) was beaten by the Santa Clarita Warriors, 40-32, Midget Black (1-2) lost to Canyon Gold, 22-20, Bantam Black (1-3) was defeated by Palmdale, 22-14, Bantam White (1-3) couldn't get by the Santa Clarita Seminoles, 38-6, and the Pee-Wees were downed by the Highland Eagles, 38-12.
