A car with four people inside crashed into a support pillar of a Burbank apartment complex parking garage on Friday evening, killing two elderly passengers, Burbank police said.

Just after 7:30 p.m., Burbank police and firefighters responded to reports of a crash in the south alley of Santa Anita Street at Sixth Street, where they found two men and two women in a wrecked sedan, according to police.

The driver and front-seat passenger — a man and a woman — were taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center with serious injuries but were said to be in stable condition.

“The rear-seat passengers, a male and female in their 70s, were taken to [Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center] in Burbank,” according to a police statement. “Both rear-seat passengers were pronounced deceased as a result of the collision.”

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Officials ask that anyone who witnessed the incident contact the Burbank Police Department’s Traffic Bureau at (818) 238-3100.
