Youth Scene: Laguna FVW wins again

Laguna Beach VFW extended its winning streak to six games as it coasted to a 14-4 win Wednesday over visiting Newport Beach Platinum Little League Majors Division action.

The VFW offense pounded out 11 hits, including doubles by Christian Holm, Nate Magers and Cutter Clawson. Grady Morgan punctuated the output with his third home run of the season. Noah Haymond and Ashton Embury also hit the ball hard.

Defensively, Holm did his best Mike Trout impersonation with a diving catch in center field while James Loughlin made a similar catch at first base. Clawson pitched two hitless inning and was relieved by Nolan Smith, who closed out the fourth inning in order, to secure the win.

AAA Division

Zero Trash 11, Crescent Bay Advisors 10: Trason Thomas knocked in the winning run to lift Zero Trash past previously undefeated Crescent Bay Advisors (11-1-1) at Riddle Field.

A line drive to center field in the fifth inning by Drew Fink brought in the tying run for Zero Trash (7-6) which rallied for its third consecutive victory.

Zero Trash 13, UPS 5: Connor Fink hit his third home run of the season, a three-run home run, to help power Zero Trash past UPS. Jack Payne tripled and later stole home in the win.

Junior Division

Wells Fargo Advisors 7, Indians 3: Laguna Beach Wells Fargo Advisors pulled away from the Lake Forest Indians in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn the victory in a tight game.

Lucian Georges provided Laguna with the hit of the game, a bases-loaded triple that drove in three runs for a 6-3 lead. A single by Joseph Sweet brought home Georges to complete the scoring.

Laguna (9-2) spotted the Indians a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning but responded with two runs of their own in the bottom-half of the frame. Bayley Thomas had an RBI triple that scored Jordan Leppo, and a single by Henry Schineller scored Thomas.

Laguna trailed, 3-2, but again drew even in the bottom of the third when Dean Nunez singled and scored on a triple by Leppo.

Laguna hosts the Laguna Hills Hawkeyes at 10 a.m. Saturday at Alta Laguna Park.
