Pair of Breakers named All-CIF

Laguna Beach senior setter Allison Palmer and freshman outside hitter Alyse Wallace-Ford have been named All-CIF Southern Section for Division 1-A volleyball. The 2011 team was selected by the Girls’ Volleyball Coaches Selection Committee.

Palmer, who signed with Arizona State last month, and Ford, are two of 14 named to the Division 1A team. Heading the team is Player of the Year Lauren Greskovics-Fuller, a senior setter at Marymount. The Sailors repeated as division champion. The Coach of the Year honor went to Marissa Booker, who is in her first year at Corona del Mar and took the Sea Kings to the division final last month.

Palmer also was named the 2011 Orange Coast League Most Valuable Player. Wallace-Ford and seniors Caroline Holte and Marina Paul were named first-team all-league. Breakers named to the second team were senior Avery Bush and juniors Julia Goggin and Alex Murphy.

Cross-Country

Senior Natasha Strickland has been named Female Runner of the Year for the 2011 Orange Coast League girls’ cross-country season. Freshman Janie Crawford, senior Marisa Merchant and sophomore Eliza Romero made the girls’ all-league team.

Laguna was represented by senior Jeff White on the boys’ all-league team.

Girls’ Golf

Laguna had three players make the 2011 All-Orange Coast League girls’ golf team. Senior Taylor Weiss was a first-team player who finished runner-up to MVP Cassie Stevenson of Estancia for the league’s individual title.

Niko Morok of Laguna was fifth at the league tournament and also made first team. Vivian Mendoza was eighth at league finals and made the second team.

Girls’ Tennis

The Laguna girls’ tennis team dominated the 2011 Orange Coast League team selections, led by senior singles player Lauren Michaels, who was named MVP. The league champion Breakers had senior Claire Jaeger make first team singles.

In doubles, the teams of freshman Kira Hamilton and sophomore Brooke Michaels (league tournament winner), juniors Chloe Monsour and Katelyn Bo and sophomore Sarah Nederlander and freshman Bailey Jaeger all made first team.

The Breakers placed singles sophomore player Stephanie Tat and the doubles teams of seniors Kate McMahon and Hanna Magstadt on the second team.
