A 56-year-old Canadian woman was injured when three cars collided in a chain reaction near Laguna Canyon and El Toro roads during heavy traffic Friday afternoon, Laguna Beach police said.

The injured passenger, who was riding in a BMW 328i, suffered minor upper body pain and was hospitalized after a BMW 335i rear-ended the car at 2 p.m., Capt. Jason Kravetz wrote in an email.

The driver of the 335i, a 20-year-old Claremont resident, looked away to adjust her air conditioning and hit the 328i, Kravetz said.

The force of the crash pushed the 328i, which Kravetz said received significant damage, into a Toyota Avalon.

Police did not issue any citations or make any arrests, and alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the crash, Kravetz said.
