Man jumps from moving car, eludes police

A man who jumped out of a moving car eluded police on foot on Victoria Beach last weekend, according to Laguna Beach police.

Officers tried to stop a white Chrysler Concorde at 1:09 a.m. Saturday when the driver jumped out of the still-moving car on Victoria Drive and ran down stairs leading to Victoria Beach, Sgt. Louise Callus wrote in an email.

The car, reported stolen, then hit an unoccupied parked car, police said.

Officers chased the man, but he was out of sight almost immediately, Callus said.

Police followed the man’s path onto the sand and headed north around the cove. Officers found a jacket, shoes and a broken cell phone along the path.

Police conducted a search for the man, wanted on a prior charge of driving under the influence, but could not find him, Callus said.

Police kept the vehicle for fingerprinting, according to Callus.
