Officer will get around town in electric cart

The Laguna Beach Police Department’s downtown patrol officer now has another means of getting around — an electric golf cart.

The City Council approved the cart a couple weeks ago, and it is now in use. Police said it allows the officer to respond to calls more quickly.

According to the city’s website, the small, quiet electric car, which cost the city $8,941, doesn’t add significantly to traffic because of its size and maneuverability.

“We believe this addition will enhance our effectiveness in the downtown and Main Beach,” police said.
