Special Olympics torch relay makes its way from South Laguna through CdM

Special Olympics athletes and Bank of America employees and clients carried a torch from Laguna Beach through Corona del Mar Friday as part of the first Special Olympics Unified Relay across America.

The relay was a lead-in to the Special Olympics World Games that begin July 25 in Los Angeles.

About 420 participants, including runners, walkers and bicyclists, joined the relay at different locations along the Orange County coastline to run or bike alongside the torch bearer. The relay began at Aliso Beach Park in South Laguna.

Participants raised money for the Special Olympics as part of their registration.

Relays were held in all 50 states beginning May 26.
