Planning Commission names chairman

The Laguna Beach Planning Commission appointed Robert Zur Schmiede as chairman, replacing Norm Grossman, at its regular meeting Wednesday night.

Anne Johnson was reappointed chairwoman pro tem.

Zur Schmiede will serve a one-year term as chairman. It is his third time in the role.

He currently is Long Beach’s deputy director of development, overseeing housing services and planning and redevelopment bureaus, according to the city’s website.

Zur Schmiede previously was a project planner for the Anaheim Redevelopment Agency and director of Fullerton’s Redevelopment and Economic Development Department.

At its May 21 meeting, the Laguna Beach City Council reappointed to two-year terms commissioners Linda Dietrich and Grossman, who has served 24 years.

The Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at council chambers, 505 Forest Ave.

Its next meeting is July 24.
