Briefs: Dries on FINA roster

USA Water Polo Women’s Senior National Team Head Coach Adam Krikorian announced Wednesday the roster for the 2013 FINA World League Super Final.

The 15 athletes include Annika Dries of Laguna Beach. Dries is among eight returners from the U.S. team that won gold at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.

The team will travel to Beijing, China to compete in the FINA World League Super Final which runs June 1-6.

Team USA has won the gold medal at the previous four FINA World League Super Finals.

“It’s very difficult to select a roster at the beginning of this cycle and without much training,” Krikorian said. “However, we are looking forward to getting a glimpse of how this team can play in China.”

The Senior National Team members selected for the Super Final roster will compete Saturday and Sunday at the FINA World League Prelims in Los Alamitos.

Junior Breakers boys’ volleyball camp

Junior Breakers Summer Volleyball Camp is a grass-root youth organization focused on teaching young athletes the basic fundamentals and strategies of volleyball using the techniques and philosophies taught at Laguna Beach High School.

Camps will be held between 4 and 6 p.m. daily the weeks of July 8-11, July 15-18, July 29-Aug. 1, Aug. 5-8 and Aug. 19-22.

Participants will receive instruction from current Laguna Beach High School boys’ volleyball head coach Scott Panaro, additional Laguna Beach High volleyball staff members and current players.

Boys’ volleyball camp for high school players

Designed for incoming freshmen through 12th-grade players, Laguna Beach High School Volleyball Summer Camp starts in August.

The Freshman-Senior camps will take place between 4 to 7 p.m. daily the weeks of Aug. 5-8, Aug. 12-15 and Aug. 19-22.

The camp is designed to help incoming players, with no or limited experience or have not played on a previous boys’ volleyball team at Laguna Beach, to become more familiar with game skills and rules.

Returning players will continue to develop their skills and participate in game play.

The camp will be instructed by Laguna Beach High boys’ varsity head coach Scott Panaro, members of the Laguna coaching staff, and current collegiate players.

South Coast offers physicals

South Coast Medical Group will offer sports physicals to incoming Laguna Beach High athletes for the 2013-14 school year on June 5 (3 to 5 p.m.) and June 7 (2:30 to 5 p.m.) at the school.

The cost per physical is $40 with $25 of that fee going to the Laguna Beach High School Athletic Boosters.
