Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions

SANTA BARBARA — Corona del Mar High won twice at Santa Barbara High, advancing to Saturday’s semifinals.

The Sea Kings defeated Clovis West, 25-22, 25-22, 25-19. They then topped Dos Pueblos in a quarterfinal match, 15-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-18.

“We showed some resiliency,” Coach Steve Conti said in a telephone interview of the Dos Pueblos match. “We switched some things around with our lineup a little bit, and maintained a high level for the last three games.”

Joey Martino had 15 kills against Clovis West, Ryan Moss added 11 and Ryan Clayton had six kills and three blocks. Tommy Brooks had five kills and three blocks.

Moss and Clayton each had 12 kills against Dos Pueblos, and Martino added 11 kills, two blocks and three digs. Brooks had six kills and four blocks, and Matt Ctvtrlik dished out 37 assists.

CdM (15-7) plays Mira Costa in a TOC semifinal at 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Santa Barbara High. Mira Costa is ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division 1; CdM is No. 8.

SANTA BARBARA — The Sailors opened the two-day tournament splitting their two matches on Friday.

Newport Harbor 7-foot senior Kevin Rakestraw recorded 24 kills in the opener that Valencia West Ranch won, 25-21, 20-25, 25-17, 28-26, at Santa Barbara High.

Wyatt Walton had 11 kills and Steven Duhoux collected 45 assists for the Sailors (14-7).

In the second match, played at San Marcos High, the Sailors defeated Simi Valley Royal, 25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 25-23, and advanced to Saturday’s consolation semifinals at 10:45 a.m.

Rakestraw produced 20 kills and Peirce Ward 15 kills. Duhoux registered 40 assists.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Corona del Mar 15, Northwood 3

CORONA DEL MAR — Alec Adamson, Bjorn Hoffmann and Pedro Fernandez all swept in singles in Friday’s Pacific Coast League match.

Ryan Andrews and Andrew Nguyen swept in doubles for CdM (15-2, 6-2 in league), ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division 1. Northwood is No. 9 in Division 1.

CdM plays at Woodbridge on Tuesday.
