UCI’s Collyer honored

UC Irvine senior Cortney Collyer has been named Big West Conference Player of the Week in women’s water polo.

Collyer, an attacker, helped No. 10-ranked UCI earn a pair of conference victories to clinch their second regular-season conference crown in three years.

She scored four combined goals in a 9-8 win over No. 14-ranked Cal State Northridge on Saturday and a 11-5 victory over No. 16-ranked UC Santa Barbara on Sunday.

She also totaled five steals and drew three exclusions in the two contests and limited the opposing team’s leading scorer to one goal apiece.

She leads the Anteaters (18-8, 4-0 in conference heading into Thursday’s conference finale at Long Beach State) in assists (28) and steals (48) and her 33 goals are rank third on the squad.
