Woman arrested after allegedly stabbing mother

A Costa Mesa woman was arrested Friday on suspicion of stabbing her mother.

Costa Mesa police received a call at around 5 p.m. that a stabbing occurred in the 400 block of Hamilton Street.

The victim, Alice Simpson, 51, had multiple stab wounds to her chest, arms and back, police said in a statement. Police said she is in stable condition at Western Medical Center Santa Ana.

During an investigation, police discovered that Simpson and her 18-year-old daughter Andrea Quanita Simpson, who police say has a history of mental illness, had an argument. During the altercation, police said the daughter went to the kitchen to grab a knife, stabbing her mother.

Andrea Quanita Simpson fled the scene after the fight, according to the release. A Huntington Beach Police helicopter found the suspect walking near Victoria Street and Newport Boulevard during a search of the area.

Andrea Quanita Simpson was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. She’s being held on $25,000 bail.

According to police, the suspected knife used in the assault was found on the suspect when she was arrested.
