From Cosby to Weezer, O.C. Fair has star-studded lineup

Share

From Weezer to Chicago to Steve Miller, the 2011 Orange County Fair will feature musical acts and other shows for every generation.

Organizers said the fair, which is expected to attract more than a million visitors, strives to have something for everyone during the Los Angeles Times Concert Series at the Pacific Amphitheatre.

On the fair’s opening night Friday, musical legend Bob Dylan will kick off the 22-night concert calendar. The singer-songwriter, now 70, influenced countless rock and folk bands with his songs like “The Times They are a-Changin’” and “Like a Rolling Stone.” A limited number of tickets were still available earlier this week.

For the tweens and teens, Disney Channel star Selena Gomez and her band The Scene will headline performances scheduled for Sunday, July 24. The 18-year-old pop princess’ most recent hit, “Who Says,” rocketed her third full-band album to No. 4 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart.

A lone break in the musical lineup, comedian Bill Cosby will take the stage Saturday, Aug. 6. The 74-year-old star of “The Cosby Show” is known not only for his comedy, but his educational activism and best-selling books.

The “King of Blues,” B.B. King, closes out the concert calendar on Sunday, Aug. 14. King, 85, has been named one of the top 100 best guitarists of all time and is an honoree in both the Blues Hall of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

In addition to a lineup of real deal shows by King, Dylan and others, the fair’s entertainment program will offer a slew of tribute bands.
