FULLERTON — Natalie Ledezma, Laura McGrail and Dana Sanderlin scored a goal each for the Anteaters in their Big West Conference opener Friday.

Sanderlin and Devon Delarosa had an assist each for UCI (5-7, 1-0 in conference), which will play at UC Riverside Sunday at 6 p.m.

The Titans are 3-7, 0-1.

Sacramento State 2, UC Irvine 1

IRVINE — The Hornets, making their Big West Conference debut, scored the game-winner in the 84th minute in the Big West opener for both teams Friday.

Gor Kirakosyan scored for UCI (3-6-1, 0-1 in conference) and Matthew Tilley had the assist.

Sacramento State is 4-4-1, 1-0.

Orange Coast def. Fullerton

COSTA MESA — Karlee Rigs had 18 kills and 16 digs to help lead the Pirates to a 21-25, 25-9, 25-13, 25-17 Orange Empire Conference victory Friday night.

Morgan Link had nine kills and Dana Nicholson added seven kills for OCC (7-0, 1-0 in conference). Allison Lumsden had 41 assists, Andi Frisina had 24 digs and four aces and Nicholson had 13 digs for the Pirates, who play at Saddleback on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Fullerton is 4-4, 0-1.

Hawaii def. UC Irvine

HONOLULU — Freshman Sydney Wright led the Anteaters with eight kills and five block asssists in the 25-18, 25-11, 25-18 Big West Conference loss to the No. 8-ranked hosts late Thursday.

UCI, which hit .090 as a team, fell to 7-9, 2-1 in conference.

The Rainbow Wahine are now 11-2, 4-0.

William H. Tucker Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — UC Irvine sophomore Pete Fernandez fired rounds of 70 and 69 Friday to record a five-under-par 139 after the first two rounds Friday.

Fernandez had 10 birdies over 36 holes as he is one shot behind San Francisco’s Cory McElyea (69-69) entering Saturday’s final round at the UNM Championship Course. Minnesota’s Erik Van Rooyen is tied with Fernandez for second after rounds of 66-73.

The ‘Eaters are fifth in the 14-team field with a two-round total of 588. Host New Mexico is in first at 568, San Francisco is second at 581, Colorado third at 583 and Baylor is fourth at 586.

UCI junior Travis Russell is in 14th place at 146 (73-73), freshman Jacob Schulze is 44th at 151 (72-79), senior Michael Yang is 51st at 152 (72-80) and senior Mickey Chan is 83rd at 164 (77-87).
