Jonas D. Store
July 16, 1927 - June 9, 2014

Jonas Store passed away June 9, 2014. Born July 16, 1927 in Norway to Harald and Astrid Store, Jonas Store lived a life full of adventure, family, hard work and public service.

Jonas loved his wife of 62 years. They met at University of Washington and moved to Newport Beach in the 60’s to raise their three daughters. Jonas won a seat on the Newport Beach City Council in 1972. Among his accomplishments as a city councilman was his work to successfully end a plan to put a freeway through Corona del Mar.

After graduating in 1953 from University of Washington, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Jonas founded his own consulting firm. The firm became Store, Matakovich & Wolfberg (SMW) in 1969 and grew to be the largest engineering firm west of the Rockies. He was a past President of the Mechanical Engineers Association of So. Cal. He served on the Boards of the County of Orange Sanitation District and the Orange Coast College Foundation.

Jonas loved the ocean and owned several boats that he kept at the Balboa Bay Club and Balboa Yacht Club in Newport Beach. Notably, Jonas restored a Norwegian Rescue Vessel, the Oscar Tybring, a 42 foot ketch designed by Colin Archer.

Jonas is survived by his wife, Marit, his daughters and their husbands Solveig and Dan Deuprey, Astrid and Enrique Brintrup and Linda-Kari and Peter Bretschger along with eight grandchildren Jennifer Deuprey Stanchak, Danny and William Deuprey, Jon Enrique Brintrup, Cristian Brintrup, Marita Brintrup, Peter Jr. and Christopher Bretschger and a great grandson, Tomas Brintrup.
