Marjorie “Joan” Causey McMillion

Marjorie “Joan” Causey McMillion, 76, of Laguna Beach, CA, died Wednesday, December 22, 2010, due to congestive heart failure.
McMillion was born to James Oliver Causey & Frances Elizabeth Nadeau on August 25, 1934, in Long Beach, CA. Her grandparents were James Riley Causey & Mary E. ‘Polly’ Hale of Camden, MO & Taft, CA; and Charles Augustus Nadeau & Elizabeth ‘Eliza’ Jane Stuart of Beaver Harbor, New Brunswick, CAN., Eastport, ME, and Long Beach, CA.

Predeceased by her ex-husband, Walter Harrison McMillion, she is survived by her children: Shawn McMillion, Salt Lake City, UT; Shannon Bartlett, Santa Barbara, CA; Sharon (William J. ‘Bill’) Hanson, Costa Mesa, CA; Sherwood (Elaine) McMillion, Laguna Beach, CA and Shane (Edna) McMillion, Las Vegas, NV; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

McMillion attended Mount St. Mary’s College, Los Angeles, CA; the Université Paris-Sorbonne, Centre de Linguistique, and The Center Audiovisual de Royan pour l’Etude des Langues in Royan, France. McMillion was active in the Southern California real estate community for over 20 years eventually opening her own office, Causey & Co., in Laguna Beach. McMillion was a voracious reader of both the classics and contemporary authors; she was quite creative and instilled an education and passion for both music and the arts, in her children. She loved the beach, the ocean, and sailing. Fulfilling a lifelong dream, McMillion moved to France, residing in Paris, Royen, and Nice — where she had the amazing opportunity of meeting the French artist, Marc Chagall, --the pioneer of Modernism, who was 96 at the time. After many years abroad, she finally settled in the Sugar House area of Salt Lake City, UT, where she resided for the remainder of her life. As a Christian, McMillion’s final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.

On behalf of the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy at the University of Utah School of Medicine, a memorial service to honor her donation will be held at 11 a.m. May 27, 2011, at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. A private memorial service is pending.
