IVC holds graduation ceremonies

Irvine Valley College awarded 1,908 degrees and certificates to students during its 29th annual commencement ceremony last week.

The college conferred 686 associate of arts degrees, 75 associate of arts for transfer degrees, 83 associate of science degrees, 88 associate of science for transfer degrees and 976 certificates of achievement.

Irvine Valley has the highest transfer rate in California. It also ranks fourth statewide in completion metric, with more than 62% of its students completing their degrees or transferring, according to a news release.

Student Sarah Pospisilova spoke during the graduation ceremonies, which were held on campus next to the Performing Arts Center. She plans to transfer to Cal State Channel Islands to earn degrees in English and history.

Each of the nine campuses of the University of California has made offers to Irvine Valley’s 2014 graduates, including 143 students accepted to UCLA and 64 who gained acceptance to UC Berkeley.

Students also plan to transfer to California State Universities, USC, Chapman University, University of Hawaii at Manoa and Arizona State University, the release states.

This year, the oldest graduate was 67 and the youngest was 17, according to the release.
