Driver pins pedestrian between cars

A sedan driven by an 81-year-old Santa Ana woman sped through a Costa Mesa parking lot Wednesday afternoon and crashed into a pedestrian, pinning him against another car, police said.

About 1 p.m., witnesses watched from the lot in front of Mitsuwa Marketplace near Paularino Avenue and Bristol Street while the Toyota Camry allegedly hit multiple vehicles before it bounced off a truck and slammed into a deliveryman.

The victim, a 41-year-old from Palos Verdes, was pinned against a minivan, police said.

After firefighters and police freed his lower limbs, an ambulance took him to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana to treat major trauma to his left leg. He was in stable condition, police said.

Officials interviewed the driver at the scene and released her. She was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police said.

The department is still investigating and asks that anyone with information contact Traffic Investigator Darren Wood at (714) 754-5264.
