Man arrested in case of Prada sunglasses-wearing bank robber

Police arrested a Huntington Beach man Friday on suspicion of robbing a Wells Fargo Bank in Corona del Mar last month while wearing fashionable sunglasses.

Newport Beach detectives suspect Christopher Bruce Mellies, 28, robbed the Wells Fargo Bank branch at 3600 East Coast Highway wearing black Prada sunglasses on July 21.

Mellies was arrested near one of his relative’s homes in Huntington Beach just after 3 p.m. Friday, according to a news release.

Police are investigating whether Mellies was involved in other bank robberies in the area, according to the release.

Authorities ask anyone with information to contact Det. Garrett Fitzgerald at (949) 644-3797.
