2 trapped, injured in Newport collision

Newport Beach fire crews extracted two people who were trapped in their car following a crash Sunday afternoon.

Police received a report of a collision involving a silver Range Rover and a black Jeep at Jamboree Road and University Drive, said Newport Beach police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella.

Portions of Jamboree Road were closed for a half hour while fire crews extracted the pair from the vehicle.

They were transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. Both are expected to survive.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision.
