Community & Clubs: Interfaith groups gather for youths
The public is invited to the Oct. 16 Youth Services Fair sponsored by the Newport-Mesa-Irvine Interfaith Council, according to Rev. Julie Elkins, the council president.
A number of youth services agencies will share what they offer to youths, from substance-abuse programs to leadership skills development.
The luncheon will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dover Drive and 16th Street, Newport Beach. The day begins with registration at 11:45 a.m., followed by a buffet luncheon and the fair from 12:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Walk against hunger
The 25th annual Newport/Irvine/Mesa CROP Interfaith Hunger Walk will be held Oct. 27 starting at 1 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic School, 2046 Mar Vista Drive, Newport Beach.
The 7K walk (4.2 miles) goes around the beautiful Newport Beach Back Bay. A shorter 4K (2.4 miles) walk will also be available.
“This is a fundraising event to help fight hunger and homelessness both locally and internationally,” according to Steve Goetz, walk chairman. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for religious groups from all faith traditions, businesses, schools and other secular groups to walk together towards this common goal.”
The walk is non-denominational. More than 300 walkers from at least 20 congregations and organizations are expected to participate.
Local groups that receive a portion of the donations include Isaiah House, Share Our Selves, Orange Coast Interfaith Shelter, Jewish Federation & Family Services and StandUp For Kids. The local event joins 2,000 other walks nationwide in raising millions of dollars for the more than 1 billion people in our world who go to bed hungry.

Wild West Casino Night
The Harbor Mesa Lions will hold their Wild West Casino Night fundraiser Oct. 18 at the Costa Mesa Neighborhood Community Center. Featured will be gaming tables, a silent auction, opportunity drawings, two grand prizes, hoe-down dancing and a chuck wagon dinner of ribs and chicken.
